From Bugs to Box Trucks, A Week in the Life of a Scrapper

Some weeks are just more memorable than others, and this one? Let’s just say it had a little bit of everything. I’m Marty Chappell, owner of Cash 4 Cars Rochester, and I’ve spent the last several days picking up a wide variety of vehicles around the greater Rochester area. From classics to crossovers, each stop brought its own story, scenery, and satisfied customer.

Instead of breaking things down by day, I thought I’d mix it up and tell you about the week as a whole. After all, what’s better than a little variety?

Let’s start big, literally. In Greece, I picked up an old 1985 box truck. This thing was a beast. It hadn’t run in years, but the metal alone made it worth towing. The owner had used it for hauling tools for decades, and it felt good helping him finally clear the space.

On the opposite end of the size spectrum, I found myself in Rochester, taking away a bright yellow 2003 VW Bug. It was quirky and had personality, but years of rust and mechanical issues meant it was time to go. The owner laughed as we loaded it, saying, “That car’s been with me longer than some friends.”

In Mendon, I picked up a sleek but tired 2007 BMW X3. Beautiful scenery, quiet roads, and a car that had seen better days. The owner said it just wasn’t worth repairing anymore, and was relieved to see it go with no stress.

In Webster, a 2008 Chevy Impala was waiting in a driveway shaded by towering maples. It had served its owner through multiple seasons of upstate winters. I showed up, made an offer, and within minutes it was loaded up.

Hilton brought me a 2009 Honda Odyssey. A family hauler with plenty of memories, it was finally ready to be retired. The seller appreciated that it wouldn’t just sit around rotting.

Back in Rochester, I picked up two more vehicles: a 2011 Hyundai Sonata and a 2013 Ford Escape. Different owners, same story—cars too costly to fix, taking up space, and ready to be swapped for cash.

In Chili, I picked up a 2014 Chevy Equinox. The owner had just gotten a new car and wanted the old one gone before the weekend. The pickup was quick, simple, and done on her schedule.

Then there was Victor, where I had a back-to-back pickup of a 2014 Nissan Murano and a 2016 Kia Sportage. Neighbors in the same cul-de-sac, both happy to get fast cash and get rid of aging vehicles. We all shared a few laughs, and I left with two cars on the trailer and two grateful customers.
